Down Memory Lane At National Museum Part 2

I have written an article about my trip to the National Museum a few days ago. I talked about my trip to the different exhibitions and galleries such as the Singapore Living Galleries: Food, Photography, Film & Wayang and Fashion along with the Goh Seng Choo Gallery. In this article, I will show the rest of my trip to the National Museum which includes the interior and exterior of the building along with my trip to the Singapore History Gallery.

Down Memory Lane At National Museum Part 1

Free public galleries are fun as you get to know more about the different government agencies and their part to play in helping Singapore. But, they can't be classified as museums. That's why today I am going to give you a tour around one of Singapore's oldest museum, the National Museum in Bras Basah.

Galleries Galore Part 3: IRAS Gallery

Taxes. It's that ONE thing that you can't avoid in life. Everyone in Singapore pays taxes. Majority of us pay the usual tax that involves paperwork. Nowadays, we can just do it online. Young people don't really have to do paperwork (like me) but we still pay taxes indirectly with the Goods And Services Tax (GST). Look on the bright side though, taxes are what help Singapore a better place. Most of the infrastructure and public works come from the taxes we pay.

With the IRAS Gallery, we get to find out about the history of taxes, the different kinds of taxes and why we have to pay taxes.

Galleries Galore Part 2: HDB Gallery

I hope you enjoyed my write up on the Singapore City Gallery, a free public gallery about urban design and planning. Today, I am going to do a write up on another well known free public gallery which is the HDB Gallery. Opened by the public housing agency, the Housing Development Board (HDB), this gallery showcases the past, present and future of public housing in Singapore.

Galleries Galore Part 1: Singapore City Gallery (Now with Video)

When you see this sign, what is the first thing that comes into your mind? Maybe you'll think, it's another boring museum. Maybe a gallery full of words and nothing else. Well, you're wrong. The Singapore City Gallery is a free public gallery that talks about Singapore's urban planning. It may sound boring to you, but trust me, this place is anything but boring.

In fact, when you step inside the buidling, which is the URA Centre, the headquarters for Urban Redevelopment Authority, you may come across an exhibition about architecture and buildings. You're not at the gallery yet. Instead, that's just a temporary exhibition that will change from time to time.

Science Is Fun At The Singapore Science Centre

We all know that science is totally boring. We always try to pay attention during science classes but most of us just sleep through it. Yet, science is all around us. You know what keeps us from flying around? It's gravity. You know why it's so hot even though the sun is extremely far away from us? That's radiation.

With the Singapore Science Centre, science is made to be fun. The Singapore Science Centre is Singapore's most popular and Singapore's only science museum. It's located in Jurong East, the western area of Singapore. When you're there, you'll find a wide range of science related experiments and hands on activities which are fun to play with and educational at the same time.

Sneak Peek: Gardens By The Bay

Many of you may have heard of the Singapore Botanic Gardens at Bukit Timah. But, I bet a lot of you have never heard of Gardens By The Bay. Gardens By The Bay is Singapore's second botanic gardens in the Marina South area. Even though both are botanic gardens, they both have different appearances and different selection of plants, trees and flowers. When I first visited this place, it was still closed and trespassed the garden without permission.

Nah, I'm just kidding. It was open temporarily in the middle of November because of the World Orchid Conference. The World Orchid Conference is an annual show where they'll showcase some of the best species of orchids. I didn't attend the event as it was a paid event but the visit to the park itself is free. (The conference was held at the Flower Dome). The only parts of the garden which were temporarily open include Dragonfly Lake, Heritage Gardens, Flower Dome and Silver Garden. The rest were not opened as they were still undergoing construction. They'll fully open in June 2012.

A Day At The Marina Barrage

Have you ever wanted to check out the sea without going to the beach where you'll have sand stuck in your sandals? This place is for you. The Marina Barrage is a lifestyle attraction and a reservoir which provides water supply to Singapore and also, to keep the water level in Singapore stable with the flood gates. It's located along the waterfront and has great panoramic views of the sea and the SIngapore city skyline. Upon entering, you'll find fountains and a tall blue structure with writings on it. I don't really know what is that actually.

Changi Airport: Singapore's Most Important Airport

Normally when you visit an airport, what do you see? Airplanes and busy people talking on their phones while carrying briefcases? Yes but Changi Airport is more than that. Changi Airport has something for everyone whether they're passengers or not. With beautiful architecture, constant upgrades, clean toilets and good service, it's no wonder Changi Airport is one of the best airports in the world.

The New Changi City Point

You may be wondering why I am writing about a shopping mall. All of us, (including me), are tired of shopping malls since most of the shops are commonly found in Singapore. When I first visited Changi City Point, I thought the same thing. Well, I was wrong. Changi City Point is a relatively new shopping mall that opened in late October 2011/early November 2011. Unlike regular malls, this mall has a wide selection of 'outlet stores'.
