A Walk in Bedok Reservoir Park

Despite being infamous with the recent suicides and deaths occurring here, Bedok Reservoir Park still remains one of the best places for joggers, brisk walkers and regular people to exercise, relax and unwind. In this article, I'll talk about Bedok Reservoir Park which is located in the eastern part of Singapore called Bedok and it's also one of Singapore's water catchment areas.

One attractive feature of the Bedok Reservoir Park is the Berlin Wall. As you know, the Berlin Wall is the infamous wall that split Germany into East Germany and West Germany during the Cold War. After the fall of the Cold War, the Berlin Wall broke down and some of the remains can be found around the world including Singapore. It's a piece of world history located right in the heart of Bedok Reservoir Park. Isn't that cool?

Anyway, if you're a history buff and interested in world history such as the Berlin Wall and the Cold War, you can check out the Berlin Wall at this uniquely shaped shelter and there's also a short and interesting write up about the Berlin Wall itself. I like the artwork that's on the Wall and also the look of the shelter.

Bedok Reservoir Park also has different species of trees. Some big and some small just like typical parks. The park is also a popular hotspot for dragon boat races and other kinds of water sports like kayaking. It's a great place to exercise especially during the mornings and has a nice view of the reservoir. A fitness corner is also present for those who want to train themselves without paying money for a gym membership.

The last time I came here was in August right before National Day. Just right next to the Berlin Wall which I had just mentioned earlier on, there was this construction going on. From the hoardings, there was a message saying that a new cafe will be built and that it'll open in late 2011. Well, if you check out Bedok Reservoir Park now, you will find that the cafe has already been opened and you can dine here. It's called Wawawa Bistro serving German and British cuisine.

\Here are some interesting shots of Bedok Reservoir. You can see the sun gleaming into the reservoir creating that reflection of the sun and the trees that line along the park. Looking at the pictures already makes me want to come here again and relax. It's just so peaceful and calm, you can even sleep here. (Don't do that please).

There are also jogging tracks if you want to do some jogging or running. You can't really get lost at the park so long as you follow the jogging trail. It's also a great place to take a stroll and a great place to have a picnic. Get yourself a picnic basket and a picnic mat and sit down at the lawn which is near the jogging path. You can have a picnic and check out the wonderful beauty of nature and the chirping of birds.

There is also a floating deck off the park. You can enter the floating deck and catch a breathtaking view of the reservoir itself. Plus, the floating deck has lots of space so you can have a picnic under the sun.

Here are some more beautiful shots of Bedok Reservoir Park. This place is full of greenery and when you take a stroll along the park, you will feel relaxed and you'll forget about all the tension from work or school.

Bedok Reservoir Park is also located near the neighbourhood of Tampines. Just right beside the park, there is a condominium and also Temasek Polytechnic. You can see some more houses and buildings when you walk further along the park.

This was a surprise. As I was walking along the park near Forest Adventures, there was this cute cat walking past and since I love cats, I decided to stop and pet the cat. The cat was so cute and kept meowing. Cats can usually be found at void decks of HDB flats so it was definitely unusual to find a cat in the middle of a park. I wonder how it survived though.

This is a drain right underneath the jogging path of the park. I took a picture of this because of the slightly unusual shape. It's random isn't it?

Here are more pictures of trees found at Bedok Reservoir Park. Seeing these trees in the morning already will make you feel calm and relaxed. It's nature at its best.

All in all, Bedok Reservoir Park is a great place to jog, run, stroll, have a picnic and just relax. Sure, there may be cases of deaths in this park but that doesn't mean you shouldn't come here at all. If you live in the eastern part of Singapore especially Bedok or Tampines, you are lucky to have this park right at your doorstep.
