A Wonderful Evening At The Woodlands Waterfront Park
Woodlands residents are a lucky lot. Despite the fact that they are located far from the city area, they have plenty of amenities to keep them satisfied. They have three MRT stations, a huge mall and easy access to Johor Bahru, Malaysia. Now, there’s another reason Woodlands residents should be happy, the Woodlands Waterfront Park. Here’s the scoop on this particular Woodlands gem.
What is Woodlands Waterfront
Woodlands Waterfront is a waterfront park located near the Marsiling part of Woodlands. The park offers beautiful views of the sea and a great view of our neighbour, Malaysia, particularly, the city of Johor Bahru. This is a great place to hang out and get out of the hustle and bustle of the busy Woodlands central area.
A wide variety of amenities like a playground, a place for fishing and even a seaside restaurant are some of the things to look out for when you are here at the park.
Playground and Mini Adventure Park
Perfect for a weekend spent together with the kids, the Woodlands Waterfront has a playground for the young ones and if they’re feeling adventurous, an Adventure Park just right beside has obstacle courses like bouncy bridges and rope climbing.
I’m not too sure if adults can use the Adventure Park but well, you can try. The swings at the playground are able to accommodate adults so you can embrace your inner child in you right here.
Lush Greenery Everywhere
As it also doubles up as a public park, beautiful trees are lined along the jogging track beautifying the environment and giving a great view when you’re running here. Go ahead and breathe in the wonderful fresh air when you are here. The amount of cars passing by the park are little to none making the environment even more peaceful, perfect for cycling or walking with family and friends.
The Jetty
There is also a jetty where you can get a great view of the sea right here and it’s a popular hotspot for fishing though I’m unsure if it’s allowed though. The environment at the jetty is great because the wind will be blowing in your face and you can view the amount of boats roaming around (especially the Police Coast Guards) and you can have a breathtaking view of the city of Johor Bahru.
Although the picture may not be that clear, you can see that the Johor Bahru area and the Woodlands Causeway is bustling with activity as compared to the very serene and peaceful Woodlands Waterfront.
Activities at the Jetty
Fishing is a very popular activity here at the jetty, though like I said earlier, I’m unsure as to whether it’s allowed so always check before carrying out the activity. If it’s allowed, fishing is a great way to spend the day away especially when you’re with your loved ones.
Picnics also seem to be quite a popular activity at the jetty with the many benches available, great for spending the day away.
Seaside Restaurant
Before the jetty, an oddly-located seaside restaurant, called the Rasa Istimewa Restaurant was present serving Thai, Chinese and Seafood cuisines. It’s Halal mainly to cater to the Muslim population living in Woodlands. Although the location is a bit odd, the restaurant is great for family gatherings and dinner and with beautiful views of the sea, you are guaranteed a memorable experience when you dine here.
I have not dined in at the restaurant before but the cuisines offered were quite interesting. Plus, it also doubles up as a provision shop for park patrons offering items like soft drinks, ice cream, waffles and other items like kites and fishing accessories. The restaurant definitely makes a great addition to the park.
The Location
Woodlands Waterfront is located at a slightly secluded part of Woodlands and it’s currently served by a single SMRT bus service, specifically, service 856 which links directly to the nearby Marsiling MRT Station.
Although Rasa Istimewa Restaurant is the only eatery available, you can also head to the nearby Woodlands Town Centre located beside the Woodlands Train Checkpoint. It’s a popular place among people going in and out of Malaysia.
Conclusion
Woodlands Waterfront, even though other public parks offer similar amenities, is a public park with an identity on its own with the beautiful sea view, the adventure park and the beautiful waterfront views. It’s a great place to hang out with your friends and family after a long week of work and participate in fun activities like fishing, cycling or picnics. Although the location is a little far off, the place is a definitely worth a visit.
