A Look Back At The Marina Bay Carnival 2017/2018

The Marina Bay Carnival is back by popular demand this coming December 22nd 2018, complete with new rides and new experiences. In the meantime, let us take a look back at the previous edition which was held from 15 December 2017 to 1st April 2018. Considered Singapore’s biggest carnival located right in the heart of the Marina Bay district, it was an event not to be missed.

What is the Prudential Marina Bay Carnival?

The Marina Bay Carnival was held at the Marina Bay district spanning over two sites, the Bayfront Event Space right next to the Marina Bay Sands and the Promontory site right next to the Fullerton Bay Hotel. It was sponsored by British insurance firm, Prudential and admission to the carnival was free.

However, access to the rides and carnival games can only be accessed by purchasing a reloadable token card to use for the rides which costs an average of 10 tokens (1 token = $1). Games on the other hand, costs 5 tokens for a few tries. It’s not cheap but it was an experience like no other.

Exciting Rides For People of All Ages

Say bye-bye to the usual carnival rides you normally see at neighbourhood night markets. The rides at the Marina Bay Carnival were imported from Europe and were larger than life. The carnival itself was modelled after famous European carnivals where rides were much bigger and scarier.

Popular rides include a roller coaster known as Euro Coaster, a viking ride which rocks back and forth at high speed known as Das Fun Schiff and a ride that elevates, brings you to the top and spins around letting you view the Marina Bay area in a whole new way called the Star Flyer. Many other rides were available too catering to different age groups.

Carnival Booth Games For Everyone

What’s a carnival without a myriad of carnival games? From ball toss to ring toss to shuffle boarding, there were plenty of carnival games catering to everyone. Just like the rides, carnival games don’t come cheap with a few tries costing 5 tokens.

If you win, prizes range from small to life-sized and Instagram-worthy plush toys. Definitely a great way to spend time at the carnival after enjoying the scream-inducing rides.

Food & Beverages at the Marina Bay Carnival

Like most other outdoor events, food and beverage stalls were definitely sufficient serving a variety of cuisines at both carnival sites. Some of the food and beverages sold include Meatballs In A Bucket, Chili Crab Spaghetti, Charcoal Matcha Green Milk Tea and Sour Cream Fries.

As the food was a bit more fanciful than the typical night market stalls, expect to spend more than $10 for a dish. Cool yourself down with alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks at the General Bar too. Unlike the rides and games, tokens can’t be used for food and drinks. Cash and cashless payments like NETS could be used instead.

Activities Held Alongside

Over the course of the carnival, plenty of activities were held alongside the event like weekly live performances and yoga sessions.

Collaborations with other events were aplenty as well. There was Gastrobeats, a food festival coupled with live performances, iLight 2018, a sustainable light art festival and Ilumi Run, a glow in the dark marathon. All these events which were held in conjunction with the Marina Bay Carnival definitely made the Marina Bay area more lively attracting people from all age groups.

Conclusion

The Marina Bay Carnival was definitely an event not to be missed and it was unlike any other event out there. With its adrenaline-pumping rides, exciting game booths, delicious cuisine and collaborative side events, the Marina Bay district was the ultimate place to head to back when the Carnival was still operating.

If you have missed it, no worries a second edition of the Marina Bay Carnival will be held from 22nd December 2018 stretching all the way to 24th March 2019. It will come with completely new rides and carnival games alongside crowd favourites. Visited the previous carnival edition recently? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
