Wonderful Greenery at the Singapore Botanic Gardens

At the end of June 2012, a botanic gardens will open for the public at the Marina South area called Gardens By The Bay. It's Singapore's second botanic gardens and will feature lots of great new features such as the Cloud Forest, Flower Dome and the SuperTree Grove. However, we must not forget about Singapore's first botanic gardens which is the Singapore Botanic Gardens located at the Bukit Timah area. The Singapore Botanic Gardens has already existed long ago since the year 1822. It's a very old garden but the Botanic Gardens still manage to attract lots of people. A lot of great plantations, trees and other features such as the National Orchid Garden, Bandstand, Swan Lake and so much more can be found at the Singapore Botanic Gardens. Circle Line Discovery Stage 4 and 5 Open House 2011

It's quite unusual to have an open house for a new train line. In Singapore, we have such a thing. Last year, SMRT which is Singapore's largest rail operator, organised an open house for the opening of the Circle Line Stage 4 and 5. Circle Line is Singapore's newest MRT line and to celebrate the launch of the new line, an open house filled with interim events, parties, performances and free train rides happened on 2 October 2011. It also happened in 2009, 2010 and 2012 for the different stages of the Circle Line.

You may have noticed that on the title you see 'Stage 4 and 5'. In Singapore, the Circle Line open in stages. The first stage of the Circle Line was Stage 3 which was from Bartley MRT Station to Marymount MRT Station and it opened in 28 May 2009. Stage 1 and 2 was opened in 17 April 2010 from Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station to Tai Seng MRT Station. Stage 4 and 5 was opened in 8 October 2011 from Caldecott MRT Station to HarbourFront MRT Station. And last but not least, the final stage, known as the Circle Line Extension was opened on 14 January 2012 from Bayfront MRT Station to Marina Bay MRT Station. Try saying all that in one breath.

Sentosa Flowers 2012

Chinese New Year in Singapore fell on the 23rd and the 24th January 2012. It's the time of the year where Chinese Singaporeans from all over Singapore come together with their families for reunion dinners and celebrate the joyous event together. It's also that time of the year to check out the different kinds of flowers here at Sentosa. Called the Sentosa Flowers, this annual event takes place around Chinese New Year season with a large showcase of beautiful and colourful flowers here. Since its inauguration in 2006, lots of visitors come to visit the flower event with a different selection of flowers and themes every year. Best of all, it's completely free although island admission charges apply.

Sneak Peek: Gardens By The Bay

Many of you may have heard of the Singapore Botanic Gardens at Bukit Timah. But, I bet a lot of you have never heard of Gardens By The Bay. Gardens By The Bay is Singapore's second botanic gardens in the Marina South area. Even though both are botanic gardens, they both have different appearances and different selection of plants, trees and flowers. When I first visited this place, it was still closed and trespassed the garden without permission.

Nah, I'm just kidding. It was open temporarily in the middle of November because of the World Orchid Conference. The World Orchid Conference is an annual show where they'll showcase some of the best species of orchids. I didn't attend the event as it was a paid event but the visit to the park itself is free. (The conference was held at the Flower Dome). The only parts of the garden which were temporarily open include Dragonfly Lake, Heritage Gardens, Flower Dome and Silver Garden. The rest were not opened as they were still undergoing construction. They'll fully open in June 2012.
