Remember Carrefour? Carrefour was the French hypermarket which first made its debut at Suntec City Mall in the year 1997 and they opened a second outlet at Plaza Singapura in 2003. Carrefour Singapore made an announcement in August 2012 that the two stores were going to close down due to high costs of rent and loss of profits. After the popularity of competitor hypermarkets, upmarket supermarkets and smaller scale neighbourhood supermarkets, it's no wonder Carrefour was struggling.
