Frenzeelo 2013: Year In Review

It's the end of the year again! It's the day where everyone will be cheering for the New Year, singing the classic Auld Lang Syne and counting down from 10 to 1. Of course I am talking about New Year's Eve and the New Year. As the year comes to close and 2014 is approaching us faster than ever, it's time for us to look back at what had happened in the year 2013 for Frenzeelo. It may not be as big and happening as last year, but there are still plenty of great things that had happened in Frenzeelo this year. Let me tell you what they are right here in the very last Frenzeelo article for 2013.

50 Years of Television - The Exhibition

If you live in Singapore, I'm pretty sure you have watched free-to-air channels on TV like Channel 5, Channel 8, Suria and much much more, right? Well did you know that TV started in Singapore in 1963 on the month of February? Before Mediacorp (the provider for all the local free-to-air channels) started, the company was known as Singapore Broadcasting Company or SBC for short. In 2013, Mediacorp celebrates 50 years of television and to commemorate this special occasion, an exhibition was held at the National Museum that talks about the history of television in Singapore. Let me give you a small virtual tour of the exhibition in case you have missed it.

Downtown Line Stage 1 Open House 2013

Another year, another MRT line will be opened for business. Last year, I went for the open house for the new Circle Line Extension which consists of 2 MRT stations, Bayfront and Marina Bay which bring you to places like the Marina Bay Sands and Gardens By The Bay. This year on the 7th of December, I went to the open house for the new Downtown Line Stage 1 which consists of 6 stations around the city area. Now, going to places like Far East Square and the Marina Bay Link Mall will be much easier. Let's take a look at what all the open house buzz was all about.

Molly The Mobile Library

Going to the library is one of our favourite childhood memories and believe it or not, many people, even adults, still enjoy going to the library occasionally. The library has full of knowledge thanks to its wide range of books, magazines, audio CDs, computers all for just one cheap membership fee. Now, Singapore's National Library Board (NLB), the main statutory board that takes care of public libraries has got a new trick up its sleeve to entice more people to go the library and it's called Molly The Mobile Library. In this article, let me tell you more about Molly and let me give you a virtual tour of the bus itself.

A Historical Walk Along Fort Canning Park

Back in the olden days, Fort Canning was known as Bukit Larangan which is Malay for Forbidden Hill. It has been said that Sir Stamford Raffles used to live here in the 1800s and that Fort Canning was also the place where British governers used to stay. Military equipment also used to be stored here and an army bunker was located right here at the Forbidden Hill. Fast forward to today, Fort Canning is no longer forbidden and it has been turned into a public park known as Fort Canning Park for everyone to enjoy. The park is loaded with history and interesting facts for history buffs and for anyone who's interested in Singapore's history. Now, let me give you a virtual tour of this great public park so read on.

Marina Bay Sands SkyPark Observation Deck

Did you know that in Singapore, there is a actually a big boat that's floating high in the sky? You may be thinking. Am I crazy or something? Well, no. The boat that I have just mentioned is actually the Marina Bay Sands SkyPark. You have seen them in the tourist brochures, in websites and on TV. Just a few weeks ago, I actually went up the SkyPark to check out what the hype is all about and there's one word that I can say to describe the place: Magnificent. In this article, I will talk about my experience at the Sands SkyPark and why you should go there.

Halal Food Expo 2013 Singapore - Frenzeelo TV

Halal food is now getting easier and easier to get here in Singapore which is really great for Muslim people. In the 7th episode of Frenzeelo TV, I visited the Halal Food Expo back in early July to see all the great Halal food they sell and believe me, there are TONS of delicious Halal food that can be found at the Expo itself. I have seen burgers, cakes, pastries, kebab and naan wraps all available for sale. It was very fun to be able to buy whatever food you want right here. Not only that, the Halal Food Expo also sold a wide variety of Hari Raya decorations (I went there in July), religious books and there was even an auction where they sell different items like carpets.

If you want more of this kind of episodes, please don't forget to Like and Subcribe at my YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/paperfrenzy. It's totally free and you will be updated with the latest video updates. Once again, this is Frenzeelo TV, the show about the best of Singapore on video.

Great Parks in the Toa Payoh Estate

Toa Payoh is a great neighbourhood that's huge and has full of awesome places. It has one of the first town centres in Singapore, has the tallest HDB flats in Singapore and it even has three MRT stations (Toa Payoh, Bradell and Caldecott). Toa Payoh also has some interesting interesting attractions like the two parks that I am going to talk about in today's article. These two parks are Toa Payoh Sensory Park, which is located along Lorong 5 Toa Payoh and Toa Payoh Town Park, which is located opposite the bus interchange. Let me give you a walkthrough of both of these great neighbourhood parks.

Baybeats Music Festival 2013

Back in June 2012, I went to the Baybeats Music Festival. It's an awesome event that showcases all the best musical talents of local and regional bands. You may remember that I have already written an article about the Festival late last year. You can read about 2012 iteration of the Festival right over here. This year, I decided to attend the Baybeats Music Festival again and in today's article, I will be showing you my experience at the festival and why you should give more support to the local and regional bands.

Punggol Promenade Riverside Walk and Pasir Ris Town Park

We all need a place to relax, unwind and maybe breathe in some fresh air once in a while. Many of us may think that, it's hard to so due to the lack of natural areas and nature parks in Singapore. After doing some exploration and some research, I find that there are actually places located in Singapore that do let you relax and breathe in the fresh air. What are these two places? They're the Punggol Promenade Riverside Walk and the Pasir Ris Park. In this article, I will talk about these two places in further detail and why you should visit them.

Student Discounts in Singapore - ZeeloTips

Students are awesome people. They work hard for exams, they don't really have to pay lots of bills except for mobile phone bills, they are shaping the future and they just like to have fun. However, one of the main disadvantages of being a student is that they don't really have that much money in their pockets. I know because I'm a student myself. Despite all that, don't worry so much because in Singapore, there are plenty of student discounts that students can make use of if they know where to find them. With these discounts, they can start to hang out with their friends without worrying so much about money and for certain discounts, they can even help students with their education. Here are some of the most common student discounts that students can find in Singapore. All a student needs is their student card, preferably a student EZ-Link card because most merchants accept this as proof of identity, some money and probably an official student email (although the last one is optional).

Nostalgia at Queenstown Library and Queenstown Bowl

There are a lot of places around Singapore that hold lots of memories for Singaporeans. These places hold their childhood memories, memories of them having a great time and memories with their familes. As Singapore starts to grow in a rapid pace, more and more old places are starting to disappear. Thankfully, there are certain old places in Singapore that are still in existence right now so it's still not too late to check them out. However, we may never know if these buildings will still be available in the next few decades so we must try to appreciate these kind of places as much as we can right now. In this article, I will be talking about my trip to one of the oldest estates in Singapore, Queenstown. Specifically, I will be checking out the historical Queenstown Library and the abandoned Queenstown Bowl entertainment centre. Scroll down to find out more about these two amazing places.

The festival is of course held at the Esplanade Theatres and it usually runs for about 10 days in the month of March. 100 Posts and Counting!

Wow, it's been a while since I last wrote a post here on Frenzeelo thanks to the amount of work that I receive in school. Although I may be busy at times, I will still try my best to make time to write my posts every week just for you.

As you can see from the title and the picture above, this is my 100th post. Yes, you read that right, 100th post. Since January 2012 all the way to now, Frenzeelo is still going strong despite me stopping my other blogs after just a few months of writing. This has been a great milestone for Frenzeelo and for me and I did not expect that this blog will still be alive. Loyal readers and newcomers always encourage me to write my posts and to continue this blog. There will be times whereby I don't even feel like writing at all. But, for the sake of my readers, I will try my best to write something for all of you. Oh and don't worry, this June, I will be back to writing more great content and I will be back to producing more episodes of Frenzeelo TV.

Once again, thank you so much to all the loyal readers of Frenzeelo and even the newcomers for supporting my blog, Frenzeelo. I promise you, I will continue to create great content for years to come. Hopefully, I will still be able to celebrate the 200th post. Cheers!

Awesome Town Centres Part 4: Bukit Merah Town Centre

Remember my past three posts about the various town centres around Singapore? It's called the Awesome Town Centres series and I have written about Ang Mo Kio Town Centre, Toa Payoh Town Centre and Hougang Central Town Centre. Since my last post, I have visited new town centres particularly the ones located in the southern and the western part of Singapore. In today's article, I will continue the series by writing about Bukit Merah Town Centre. Bukit Merah Town Centre is a quiet HDB town centre with lots of high rise and low rise flats which features all the great things like hawker centres, small mom and pop shops, a library and so much more just like other town centres. However, there are some things that make Bukit Merah Town Centre different from all the other town centres out there. Want to find out more? Scroll down or click Read More right now.

Botak's Favorites @ 5 Changi Village Road

The majority of Singaporeans surely have heard of this chain of coffeeshop stalls called Botak Jones. Botak Jones sells American fare such as steaks, cutlets, Fish and Chips, burgers and so much more and it has become so famous that they have outlets found almost everywhere in Singapore. If a business like that succeeds, what do they usually do? They expand. As of writing, Botak Jones expanded and created other businesses such as Botak's Favorites and Great Big Food. The former is the Halal version of Botak Jones, suitable for Muslims, while the latter is a catering company that usually serves American fare just like its other businesses. For today's article, I will be concentrating on Botak's Favorites, a Halal version of Botak Jones like what I have mentioned earlier. Read on further to find out more about all the mouthwatering food that I have ordered during my visit.

Sengkang Riverside Park and Punggol Waterway Park - Frenzeelo TV Ep. 5

If you live in the north east part of Singapore, especially Sengkang and Punggol, you are lucky to have these 2 great public parks. These 2 public parks are Sengkang Riverside Park and Punggol Waterway Park respectively. The Sengkang Riverside Park is a park located just right beside Sungei Punggol (which explains the name) while the Punggol Waterway Park is located beside a man made waterway in Punggol West.

In the first part of the episode, I talked about the Sengkang Riverside Park. The Sengkang Riverside Park has a lot of interesting facilities and amenities such as the Sengkang Floating Island, which consists of street furniture made to resemble oranges and a giant mangosteen along with some wetland. Other than that, the Sengkang Riverside Park also has plenty of open field for kite enthusiasts who want to fly their kites and jogging tracks for joggers who want to jog with a great view.

In the second part, I discussed about the Punggol Waterway Park. The Punggol Waterway Park is a park with a man made waterway in the middle and it's also part of an ambitious public housing project. There are cycling tracks all over the park, a water play area appropriate for young children along with several uniquely-looking bridges that allow you to cross over the waterway easily and safely. It's also a great park for those who just want to relax and take a breather.

Stop waiting and click the Play button immediately in the video right above. Hope you enjoy the latest episode of Frenzeelo TV and don't forget to check out the previous episodes such as the episode on the Singapore City Gallery and Gardens By The Bay. HSBC Treetop Walk in MacRitchie Reservoir

The MacRitchie Reservoir is full of wonders. There are forests, walking trails and lots of nature to be explored around here. You may recall that I have written about the MacRitchie Reservoir earlier on last year which you can find out more here. However, in that post, it was missing something. That 'something' is the HSBC Treetop Walk, a suspension bridge that overlooks the MacRitchie forests and it's also a place for researchers to do their research due to the difficulties of accessing the forests. Want to find out more and see what the HSBC Treetop Walk has to offer? Find out more below.

Taman Jurong and Boon Lay Shopping Centres

Shopping malls in Singapore are getting bigger and bigger. In the city, you have ION Orchard, Plaza Singapura and Suntec City. In the neighbourhoods, you have NEX, Vivocity and Jurong Point. These malls are fine but a lot of residents don't really have access to these big malls. It's mainly because there are no bus services going to these places passing by their houses or that the nearest MRT Station is located quite far away. How do these people go shopping? Through non-aircon shopping malls built by the HDB. Every HDB estate in Singapore has at least one non-aircon shopping mall. If they don't, it's probably a town centre or a neighbourhood centre. In today's article, I'll be talking about my visit to two HDB non-aircon shopping malls in the West which are Taman Jurong Shopping Centre and Boon Lay Shopping Centre.

A Ride on a Non-Aircon Public Bus in Singapore

Remember the good old days of Singapore when the public buses were all non-aircon? You get to slide open and close the windows, the wind will blow against your face when the bus is travelling, the windows will shake and rattle vigorously during the journeys, the ride is mostly hot and stuffy and so on and so forth. Now, aircon public buses have become the norm in Singapore. As of March 2013, there is still a handful of non-aircon public buses that are still in operation mostly in the Jurong industrial estates and they all are the same double decker Volvo buses as seen above. Unfortunately, the last batch of non-aircon public buses will disappear starting from April 2013 so catch them while you can. In this post, I'll be talking about my ride on a non-aircon public bus on service 246. The service starts from Boon Lay Bus Interchange and travel along parts of the Jurong industrial estates and some HDB estates like Boon Lay and Taman Jurong. Find out more by scrolling down or click Read More. Oh and by the way, this bus ride was done in late April of 2012.

Singapore City Gallery - Frenzeelo TV Ep. 3

You may remember that I posted an article about the very first two Frenzeelo commercials I have written previously, right? Also, you do remember that Frenzeelo has a web show that you can find on YouTube called Frenzeelo TV, right? After a long hiatus from July 2012, Frenzeelo TV has officially relaunched with a totally new format, logo and introduction. I will continue doing Frenzeelo TV twice every month. Even more, if I can. In the latest episode which is also the third episode, I will be talking about the Singapore City Gallery. The Singapore City Gallery is a free public gallery about urban planning and land use in Singapore. You can learn more about urban planning through the various interactive games, touchscreen displays, scale models and so much more. I'm not going to spoil the whole thing so go ahead and click play to watch the episode. I have also created a written article of the Singapore City Gallery early last year which you can read over here. Don't forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel for the latest episodes of Frenzeelo TV.

New Commercials for Frenzeelo

You know Frenzeelo has been in existence for over a year now right? On the first year, I concentrated too much on writing posts and I didn't really focus on the marketing to bring in more readers to Frenzeelo. Recently in early February, I created two commercials using some of the videos I have recorded with my phone. I posted both the videos in The Frenzeelo Channel also known as the official YouTube channel for Frenzeelo. Sure, they may lack the substance of a real advertisement because I don't have a budget for a professionally-made video and I think the two commercials that I made with my bare hands get the job done. I just need more people to come across them. If you like the ads, don't forget to share them with your friends and family and make sure they spread it around also. Come on and support Frenzeelo for more great content on the best of Singapore's places, food and events.

We love to hang out with our friends and family. I know I do. Hanging out with friends or family is great because we can strengthen the relationships and friendships with each other plus it's a great way to spend our free time. After a whole week of working, it is definitely a good idea to hang out with our friends or family or both at least once a week. In this article, I will be discussing how to make your outings last even longer so that you get to make the most out of it and create fun memories together. Instead of just going to a shopping mall and do some window shopping, here are some tips to make your trips more worthwhile, memorable and save some money at the same time. Read on further to find out more.

The Singapore River (Robertson Quay Edition)

Previously, I have written about the Singapore River, a historical canal that used to be a trading port and became a full tourist attraction after the River Clean Up which you can read more on right over here. Although I have already written about the Singapore River, you may be thinking, why would I write it again? That's because the previous article talked more about Boat Quay and Clarke Quay. Singapore River is divided into three sections which are Boat Quay, Clarke Quay and Robertson Quay. The only section missing from that previous article was Robertson Quay which I am going to talk about in this article. So sit tight, and scroll down to read more about my adventures along the Robertson Quay of the Singapore River.

NTUC Income Kite Festival 2012

Kite flying has been a popular hobby back in the Kampung (village) days. Kids just love to fly kites outside their homes. Now, kite flying is still quite popular among Singaporeans and with modern technology, kites are increasingly more modern now with remote controlled kites and so much more. If you think kite flying is dead, well, think again. In September of 2012, I went to the NTUC Income Kite Festival 2012 organised by two organisations, NTUC Income, the insurance company and Act 3 International, an organisation dedicated to teaching people about drama. Kite flying enthusiasts from all over Asia came to Singapore for this festival to show their beautiful kites and their amazing kite flying skills in the beautiful Marina Bay area. If you have missed the event, not to worry, I will show you more about the Kite Festival below.

Orchard Road Christmas Light Up 2012

Each year in November and December, Orchard Road, also known as Singapore's most popular shopping district, will be decorated with beautiful lights and decorations in the spirit of Christmas. Known as the Orchard Road Christmas Light Up, it's the most popular event in Orchard Road and on Christmas Day each year, a section of Orchard Road will be closed for the public to walk around freely on the roads and enjoy a variety of Christmas related shows and performances to celebrate Christmas. Sure, Christmas is long over and the decorations are no longer here as of this writing. This post is for you to check out what you might have missed during the Christmas Light Up event in 2012. I have written an article about the 2011 version of this event which you can check it out here.

Seoul Garden @ Ngee Ann City

As of this writing, it's already the beginning of February. Oh time flies extremely fast. It was just a month ago when I celebrated the New Year's countdown with my family. Anyway, since it's a new month, that means a new set of blog posts will be available on Frenzeelo. The first article for this month is about Seoul Garden, a Halal buffet restaurant that sells a wide variety of Korean cuisine along with sushi and marinated meats. This is the second buffet restaurant that I have visited that requires me to cook the food myself. The outlet that I am going to talk about will be the one located at Ngee Ann City, a shopping mall right in the heart of Orchard Road. If you don't live near Orchard Road, there are plenty of Seoul Garden outlets located in the heartlands of Singapore. Scroll down to read more about my experience at Seoul Garden Ngee Ann City.

Shabu Sushi @ NEX (Update)

Update: Shabu Sushi Restaurant has officially closed as of 1st October 2014

You know what's better than Shabu-shabu cuisine? Shabu-shabu cuisine AND sushi. Yes, it is definitely possible thanks to Shabu Sushi. Shabu Sushi is a buffet restaurant located at NEX, a neighbourhood mall located in the heart of Serangoon. They serve a wide variety of Japanese food which obviously includes Shabu-shabu and sushi. If you don't know what Shabu-shabu is, it's basically a Japanese cuisine whereby there will be thinly sliced pieces of meat along with vegetables boiled in hot broth and served with a variety of dipping sauces. It's somewhat similar to steamboat. I don't think I have to explain what sushi is because that's pretty self-explanatory. Do read on further about my dining experience at this great buffet restaurant.

Wonderful Greenery at Gardens By The Bay (East)

Previously, I have written two articles on Gardens By The Bay also known as Singapore's second botanical gardens. The first one was about my visit during the sneak preview in 2011 and the other one was about my visit in July 2012, a few days after it officially opened. In today's article, I'll be writing about another article related to Gardens By The Bay. However, this is a little bit different because I will be concentrating more on the eastern part also known as Gardens By The Bay East. This one is located slightly closer to the Tanjong Rhu area. Read on further to check out my adventures at this stunning garden.

Farewell Carrefour Part 2: Suntec City Mall Outlet

Sorry for not updating for quite a while. My laptop was not really working that well but now, my laptop is working better now so I can start updating more often. Back to the topic, Carrefour announced its closure in late 2012 and the stores that used to be located at Suntec City Mall and Plaza Singapura have already closed down. After hearing the announcement, I decided to check out both Carrefour outlets and I will now share with you how Carrefour Suntec City Mall looked like before its official closure. I have written an article on the Plaza Singapura outlet previously which you can check it out here and for today's article, it will be about the outlet at Suntec City Mall also known as the first Carrefour outlet to be opened. Unlike Carrefour Plaza Singapura which opened in 2003, the Suntec City Mall outlet opened in 1997. Let us take a walkthrough of the store when it was still in operation.

Farewell Carrefour Part 1: Plaza Singapura Outlet

Remember Carrefour? Carrefour was the French hypermarket which first made its debut at Suntec City Mall in the year 1997 and they opened a second outlet at Plaza Singapura in 2003. Carrefour Singapore made an announcement in August 2012 that the two stores were going to close down due to high costs of rent and loss of profits. After the popularity of competitor hypermarkets, upmarket supermarkets and smaller scale neighbourhood supermarkets, it's no wonder Carrefour was struggling. In this article, I will be giving you a tour of what Carrefour looked like before its official closure. Today's article will be about the outlet found at Plaza Singapura. The article on the Carrefour outlet at Suntec City Mall will be coming in a few days time.

Hello everyone. It's already one week after New Year's Day and how are you coping with the New Year so far? Speaking of New Year, today, 8 January 2013, is Frenzeelo's first birthday. Frenzeelo was first launched on the 8th of January of 2012 and since then, there were over thousands of photos and 70 over posts since the launch. Frenzeelo also had its fair share of achievements and disappointments over the past year. I even did a 2012 Year In Review post about the achievements of Frenzeelo on New Year's Eve. I am really happy that Frenzeelo is still alive for about a year considering that my past blogs did not really do well after writing a few posts. If you want to know what the very first article I posted on Frenzeelo, you can click here which will bring you to that article. For your information, the very first article is about a shopping mall near the Singapore Expo area. I hope that Frenzeelo will continue going on stronger in 2013 and that I get to write another birthday message celebrating Frenzeelo's 2nd birthday on the 8th of January 2014.
