Visiting The Seletar Bus Depot Carnival 2018

Seletar is known as an aerospace hub and home to the iconic Seletar Airport. It will also be home to a new bus depot known as the Seletar Bus Depot which will be operated by public transport operator, SBS Transit. To commemorate its opening in March, the public was invited to tour this new facility held in conjunction with a carnival. Here's a closer look.

A Look At The Our Bus Journey Carnival 2016

Singapore's bus industry is going through an important overhaul. This means the government will take over existing bus assets like buses and bus depots from existing operators to ensure a more reliable and affordable bus network. In order to educate the public about the overhaul, the Land Transport Authority or LTA, organised Our Bus Journey, a carnival about Singapore's buses in March 2016. Here's a look.

The Go Ahead Singapore Loyang Bus Depot Carnival 2016

Public buses are a daily affair for most of us. We use it to get to work, to school, to different places around Singapore and so on. However, we seem to forget about the amount of hard work bus operators need to do to make sure that buses run smoothly. That is what Go Ahead Singapore, Singapore's fourth public bus operator, wants to show us through the Loyang Bus Depot Carnival which took place in mid June.

Spotted: Abandoned SBS Transit Bus at NTU

Remember my visit to the NTU Heritage Centre which I wrote about previously? While on my way back from the place, I spotted this very unique find, an abandoned SBS Transit bus. Covered with moss, dust, small trees and torn sticker livery, it's definitely something that you don't get to see everyday. As I was curious, I dug up some information about the bus and here's what I found.

Visiting London's New Routemaster Bus In Sunny Singapore

London is home to many landmarks like the River Thames, Big Ben, Trafalgar Square and many others. London is also home to iconic stuff like the red telephone booths, London taxicabs and the red double decker buses known as the Routemaster. Back in February 2014, the British High Commission Singapore, brought London's New Routemaster, a public double decker bus which was introduced in 2012, to Singapore as part of a British tourism campaign. I took this opportunity to find out more about the bus and I want to share my experience of the bus right here with you!

Checking Out SMRT's Journey With Us Event @ Bukit Batok Bus Interchange

Some of you may remember the yellow Trans Island public buses which was eventually bought over by SMRT. They were rebranded to SMRT Buses Limited in 2004 and fast forward to 10 years later, they organised two "bus carnivals" called Journey With Us to let the public know more about their bus operations. I took a visit to one of the bus carnivals at Bukit Batok Bus Interchange in November 2014 out of curiosity and I'll be sharing my experience of the time I spent during this event which you can find out more below.

An Experiment: SMRT Bus Road Trip

I've always used public transport to get from one place to another and despite disruptions that happen from time to time, I find Singapore's public transport system successfully gets the job done for most of us. The public transport system (Bus and MRT) are mainly operated by two operators, SBS Transit (established in 1973 as the Singapore Bus Service) and SMRT (established in 1982 as Trans Island Bus Service or TIBS). As SBS Transit bus services are commonly seen in Singapore compared to SMRT bus services like in my estate, I wanted to challenge myself by travelling around the Singapore city using just SMRT buses and I call it the SMRT Bus Road Trip. Why? Because it's something that I've always wanted to do. Here's my experience of this so-called 'experiment'.

A Ride on a Non-Aircon Public Bus in Singapore

Remember the good old days of Singapore when the public buses were all non-aircon? You get to slide open and close the windows, the wind will blow against your face when the bus is travelling, the windows will shake and rattle vigorously during the journeys, the ride is mostly hot and stuffy and so on and so forth. Now, aircon public buses have become the norm in Singapore. As of March 2013, there is still a handful of non-aircon public buses that are still in operation mostly in the Jurong industrial estates and they all are the same double decker Volvo buses as seen above. Unfortunately, the last batch of non-aircon public buses will disappear starting from April 2013 so catch them while you can. In this post, I'll be talking about my ride on a non-aircon public bus on service 246. The service starts from Boon Lay Bus Interchange and travel along parts of the Jurong industrial estates and some HDB estates like Boon Lay and Taman Jurong. Find out more by scrolling down or click Read More. Oh and by the way, this bus ride was done in late April of 2012.

Memories of the Old Serangoon Bus Interchange

Have you ever visited a bus interchange in Singapore? A lot of people see a bus interchange as just another facility to transfer to buses/MRT, head to the nearest shopping mall/market or just top up your EZ Link card. A bus interchange is more than that. It's where thousands of people rely on for their daily commute, it's where people meet up with friends or family and it's a hang out place for bus drivers. The Old Serangoon Interchange was full of activity and with effect from 3rd September 2011, it has closed down and moved to the new Serangoon Interchange which is integrated with Serangoon MRT Station and NEX Shopping Mall along Serangoon Ave 2.
